Gallery I | The open field is a prevalent image in my work, whether it be a field of grass or of sand, a field of water, of snow or of words, a field of paper bits, shell or mica — an open field where one is free to wander or soar or travel as you wish through uninterrupted space. This series focuses on light and movement. Hand dyed silk threads, densely hand embroidered, reflect light according to varying angles — the reflection of light changes as one moves in the viewing area so that the fields shimmer. The spirits of the field are represented by simple transparent swaths of fabric, often buried in stitches — barely there, always there.
